The Gers: An Ocean of Peace, Rich History, and Gastronomy
Welcome to Gascony, the Tuscany of France.
Gîte Pouget is located in the heart of the historic region of Gascony (the land of D'Artagnan), in the Gers department (Occitanie). This region is famous for its rolling hills, sunflower fields, vineyards, and incredible silence. Here, time seems to slow down, and you can enjoy the true 'douceur de vivre'.
A Stone's Throw from Culture and Charm:
Montréal-du-Gers (2 km): Discover this medieval fortified town, one of the oldest bastides in Gascony. Wander through the narrow streets and enjoy a 'café au lait' on the central square, where you can taste the local atmosphere.
Condom, Eauze & Larressingle: Within a short drive, you can reach other beautiful towns and villages. Visit the charming fortified village of Larressingle (known as the 'Smallest Bastide in France') or the episcopal city of Condom with its impressive cathedral and Armagnac museums.
Culinary Delights and Local Markets: The Gers is a paradise for foodies. It is the cradle of Armagnac (the oldest French brandy) and the best Foie Gras.
Local Products: Visit the weekly markets in Eauze or Condom to taste fresh, local products – from duck to melon. Meet the producers and bring the taste of Gascony back to the kitchen of Gîte Pouget.
Wine: We are right in the middle of the Côtes de Gascogne wine region. There are numerous small wine estates nearby where you can taste and buy your favorite bottle directly from the farmer.
Activities for Everyone:
