Rolling hills, sunflowers, vineyards and villages where time moves more slowly. The Gers is one of the quietest departments in France — and one of the tastiest.
Gîte Pouget is in the Gers department, in the heart of historic Gascony, between Toulouse and Bordeaux. This is the land of d’Artagnan, of Armagnac and of the gastronomie du Sud-Ouest. No mass tourism, just small roads, wide fields and villages with an arcaded market square.
The climate is mild: warm, dry summers and long late-summer seasons well into October. Ideal if you’re looking for peace, enjoy cycling or walking, and love good food.
The oldest bastide in Gascony (1255), on a hill above the Auzoue valley. A central arcaded square, a Gothic church, a Friday market and everything you need: baker, butcher, grocer, pharmacy, café and two restaurants. From the house it’s a five-minute bike ride.
From the house, by car. The area is hilly but the roads are quiet — cycling is a pleasure too.
Everything in bloom, the Fourcès flower market (late April), the first terraces and empty roads for cycling. Pool open from May.
Sunflowers as far as the eye can see, evening markets, village fêtes, Jazz in Marciac and long days by the pool.
Our favourite: still 25 degrees, the grape harvest, quiet villages and the light of Gascony at its most beautiful.

From the UK, it’s a comfortable two-day drive via the ferry, or fly to Toulouse or Bordeaux and hire a car there — you’ll need one once you’re here. From Paris, allow about 7 hours by road.
